I am in a quandary. I have been asked to take on the position of a lodge officer next year. The problem is that as a shift worker I would only be able to attend 3/4 of the meetings. Is it fair that I should accept knowing that I would miss this time? To be perfectly honest, I really don't want to turn it down but I also dont want to be a burden on the lodge. :?:

Do take the Office, I am certain that some one will stand in for you, and it sounds as if you very much wish to do it.
Enjoy it there will a time when you can stand in for some one who is not able to attend a meeting.
Best wishs Gerry

I am sure that the Master Elect had considered this before he offered you the office. I would be inclined to have a discreet word with him, just to make sure he understands, and go for it !

Generally, most Lodges know who the 'workers' are and Brethren are only too willing to stand in for someone who's daily avocations prevent them from attending.

Remember, this is your first step on the road to becoming a Master !

Thank you all for your advice. Due to some of the brethren having difficulties with work I have been offered SD, subject to various permissions being sought. I must admit that while I am filled with trepidation I would like top take this post, even though it would require a lot of hard work.
